Hey! I started this new blog so I could save some of my favorite writing and pictures, and to share some of my adventures recently. I backdated some of the entries, you could take a peek at what brought us to this point. Enjoy!
Erica Lauren McLaughlin is an actress and playwright with a passion for youth activism. She has numerous credits on stage and in commercial and film. She received the 2001 National ACT-SO gold medal for playwriting, and has been produced in DC, Baltimore and at Bellarmine University. Erica graduated cum laude from UMBC with a BFA in Acting, and also studied with the Shakespeare Theater Company and HB Studio, and is currently with T. Schreiber Studio. Also an educator, Erica has instructed in acting, tap, ballet, musical theatre, and puppetry. Erica is a former member of the National Board of Directors of the NAACP, the world’s largest and oldest civil rights organization, where she represented youth advocates from DC, MD, &VA. As a youth organizer, she has executed many successful civil rights campaigns, including a 2006 rally on Capitol Hill to support the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act, and writing and delivering the obituary at the “Funeral for the “N” Word in Detroit Michigan. Erica doesn’t see her activism as separate from her art. William Inge summed up her diverse passions best, saying, “Maybe we have to improve life before we can hope to improve theatre.”
